Sheriff Ridley

Biography

Sheriff Ron Ridley was appointed as Sheriff of Hodgeman County on June 12th, 2006 by Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius. On November 6, 2012 he was elected to his second term as Sheriff and will serve until January 2017.

Sheriff Ridley began his law enforcement career in Iowa in 1977 while still attending college at what is now William Penn University in Oskaloosa. He graduated from Penn in 1978 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology  & Public Service/Law Enforcement. He moved to Kansas in 1987 after attending Central Missouri State University at Warrenburg, where he earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration. He completed the Certified Public Manager's Program through the Public Management Center of the University of Kansas in 2008 and is now a nationally certified public manager. He is also a graduate of the National Sheriff's Institute and the FBI's Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar.

Sheriff Ridley has worked for both municipal police departments and sheriff's offices during his lengthy career.  He has served a patrol officer, field training officer, field supervisor, detective, bureau commander, and agency administrator.  He served three tours as a detective and has worked hundreds of complex criminal investigations to include drug crimes, sex crimes, and homicides. Sheriff Ridley was also a member of a multi-jursidicational Tactical Narcotics Team for many years and served as a supervisor of that team.

Sheriff Ridley recognizes the value of citizen involvement in the success of an agency's efforts to detect and deter crime and is committed to the concept of community policing.

"We are all stakeholders in the future of the Hodgeman County community. The active involvement of all law abiding citizens in reporting criminal activity and communicating with the Sheriff's Office about community issues is an investment that will pay substantial dividends in ensuring that we will have a safe environment in which to raise our children. They are the future of Hodgeman County and their safety and security is an integral part of the Sheriff's Office's community policing strategy."
