Kansas Open Record Act
Information Request Guidelines
The Kansas Open Records Act (KSA 45-215 et seq.) guarantees citizens the right to obtain copies of public records that are not exempt from disclosure by specific provisions of the law. Citizens have a right to obtain a copy of the Hodgeman County Sheriff's Office's procedures for access to records, and to request the assistance from the designated Freedom of Information Officer.
The Sheriff's Office may require that requests be submitted in writing and the appropriate fee will be required for all reports. No part of the Kansas Standard Arrest Report or any Motor Vehicle Accident that is part of ongoing investigation may be released.
Your request will be completed within three (3) business days from the date the request was received. If your request is denied or delayed, you will receive a written explanation for the denial or delay.
Costs associated with requests for photos of motor vehicle crashes, certain types of criminal incidents, and requests for video files will be judged on a case by case basis.
